If you feel appalled by the way you have been treated by system, after putting many years of hard graft to get yourself competitive enough for higher surgical training, register with RemedyUK and join their march in London on 17th March. Now is the time to be pro-active and get vocal, if you feel passionately enough about it.....impact by numbers.....

Join the medical workforce and protest the massive employment and training crisis that we are now facing as a result of failed Department of Health policy.

March 17th 2007 starting at 11 am
Royal College of Physicians in St Andrews Place

Ending (plus speeches) 12.30
Royal College of Surgeons in Lincolns Inn Fields

The march will be a white coat march. We will encourage people to carry cardboard cutout plaques of Patricia Hewitt's face. The media impact of this march will depend on its visual presentation, so co-ordination of theme is important. We will congregate thereafter in the park at Lincolns Inn Fields for speeches.

We will release PDF's of posters for the march and anything else in coming weeks. Please keep in touch and get involved.

PLEASE REGISTER HERE FOR MARCH TO GIVE US AN IDEA OF NUMBERS

The BMA released a statement today describing the MMC (aka Messing up Medical Careers) as shambolic. I witnessed a sad day in medicine myself. Many of my junior colleagues I spoke to today who had applied for surgical jobs are without any job what so ever. These are good doctors, who up to this point should have had good careers. They are technically good surgeons, good with patients and have the necessary academic work under their belt and we are going to lose them to not only other specialities but jobs outside of medicine completely.

The system we had before wasn't perfect, but this system has been forced upon the profession with no verification and seems like change for change's sake. We can add this to the list to things the current government has messed up in the NHS.

The Christmas BMJ has an excellant article this week describing a study rating the looks of senior surgeons vs physicians. A panel of female observers rated surgeons significantly better looking than physicians, but the film star doctors did come out tops!
